Grammy Award winning conscious rap artist Common joins ASUOP in an united effort to support and encourage community service. This weekend’s Community Counts Concert at the Bob Hope Theater wants to recognize students, staff, and faculty of the University of the Pacific who help those in need through a significant contribution of service to the greater Stockton community.
Common is a well known public service activist. Lonnie Rashid Lynn (Common) founded The Common Ground Foundation 6 years ago, which is a non-profit organization whose priority is community service. They have done everything from help Hurricane Katrina survivors to hosting youth workshops. This organization shares in Pacific’s value of public service and strives to implement and assist programs that "broaden life experiences, build life skills, encourage healthy living, promote cultural awareness and emphasis self-empowerment of youth." This concert is a free event to those that completed at least 10 hours and went through CCI. The concert is an exciting opportunity to say thank you to those who give back to the community for their contribution are extremely valuable and they need to know that their impact on the world is noticed.
