New Changes for Pacific This Year
Written by Nick Hansen
Wednesday, 16 August 2006
This summer Pacific has undergone some changes this year which Pacific students will see when they get back on campus. Newly paved parking lots, new sidewalks, and for students living on the north side of the Calaveras River; new parking permits.
Before the end of the 2005-2006 year there was a plan put out by the administration to change the parking permits on the north side of campus to "N" parking permits. Permits which would only be available to students living on the north side of campus so that there wouldn't be parking issues. Secondly, in an effort to curb students want to drive to class thus taking up valuable parking spaces.

"N" parking permits can be used to park in B lots, but only two of them. These lots are Lot 1 which is northwest of Klein Family Field and south of the football stadium and Lot 3 which is south of Klein Family Field. Although, I might also point out I have yet to see any "N" parking permit signs and Pacific.edu lists the "N" parking permit as being required in some places and not in others. So we'll see what actually plays through.
This will become a two-way street.
So many parking changes but what is the purpose?
Pacific is preparing to put in their new University Center which will sit on the parking lot north of the sand volleyball and cement basketball court near Hand Hall lawn.
With this construction a few street changes will be made. Parking that was originally available in front of Hand Hall and on Chapel Lane (in front of Morris Chapel) will become a two-way street and thus the parking there will be eliminated. Secondly, all the repaving on campus is so that the parking lots can be re-striped to allow for more parking spaces.
With the Business school on the right this street will be a two-way street.
Construction of the new University Center will take out some 145 parking spaces, but Pacific will put in another 164 spaces to counteract this construction. Parking permits are available in the Cashiers Office in the Finance Center. It is key to note however if you have your old permit from last year you can save a little on your new permit.
The parking lot next to Physical Plant was repaved which should make some students walking from the townhouses happy. No more loose gravel to get into your sandals, just hot black asphalt. This newly paved lot will add an additional 8 spaces beyond what the parking lot could already hold.

Sidewalks
The sidewalk in front of South West Hall and the Office of Information Technology was also re-done so now you could walk on this surface bare foot without stubbing your toes. The job was very clean and to someone who doesn't really notice things on campus, they should notice this.

Buildings
The Z building, a lecture hall next to Long Theater has been demolished to make way for the new Athletic Facility. All that lies there now is gravel.
