Curtains is Hysterical

(Los Angeles, CA) As one of the last collaborations of John Kander and the late Fred Ebb, the team that created Cabaret and Chicago, Curtains is sure to be a hit. In it's world premier run at the Center Theater Group’s Ahmanson Theater the production has been blessed with a star studded cast.
David Hyde Pierce (Niles on Frasier) and Debra Monk (Frasier, Law &Order, NYPD Blue) wow the audience with their stellar vocals and keep the audience laughing. The show is an uproarious backstage murder mystery musical comedy. It is like the raucous son of Jonathan Lynn’s popular film-- Clue: The Movie and Roger’s and Hammerstein’s Broadway classic Oklahoma.
“The Women’s Dead”, performed by the entire company, is one of the best songs I have heard on stage in sometime. AND it is hilarious-- I don’t think I have ever laughed that loudly in a theater.
In “It’s a Business” Debra Monk really shines and David Hyde Pierce dusts off his dancing shoes for “A Tough Act to Follow”. “A Tough Act to Follow” is an all out spectacle. It reminded me of the seen in the 1978 Oscar nominated remake of the Broadway musical Grease, where Frenchy is inspired by Frankie Avalon to go back to high school.
This show really delivers. It has everything we’ve come to know and love about musicals. It is worth seeing again and again.
