Did someone say Pleasure Party?
Friday, 23 March 2007
March 1, 2007 marked the Third Annual Pleasure Party, put on in conjunction with the Vagina Monologues to help support the San Joaquin Women’s Shelter.
What is the Pleasure Party exactly? Well, the Pleasure Party is a Sex Education and Toys, Tips, and Tricks program which focuses on the fun, safety and empowerment of one’s own sexuality. If you’d never attended a Pleasure Party before, you were in for a big surprise!
First off, the Pleasure Party is split into two different times, separated by gender, in order to ease the discomfort and to create an environment where people can ask questions and share stories without fear. This year, like in the past, the party began with an icebreaker.
This year’s icebreaker was a name game of sorts, which had each guest introduce herself using a naughty or sexual term. Having a slightly salacious vocabulary, I was able to be one of four women standing in the final round! After shooting off alliterations like there was no tomorrow, we all ended up winning a finger massager which, as the box states, “helps soothe sore muscles, relieve stress and tension, and massage away the fatigue anytime, anywhere.” Right.
What followed was the most important part of the pleasure party: the question and answer forum. Here, the girls asked a range of questions from “What is the best sex toy on the market?” to “What’s the best way to give a blow job?” Although gaining the courage to ask these questions was difficult, there was an incentive: a goody from the “prize table.”
Many of the women present at the party were not only glad to ask the questions, but glad to receive something (sex music CDs, spare silk panties, gummy whips, or a fingertip massager) for their fearless action! Now who wouldn’t ask their most puzzling sex questions when you could gain a thing or two.
After an hour or so of answering everyone’s burning questions, Lila Bronson, the President of Pacific’s P.R.I.D.E. Alliance, the club that sponsored the Pleasure Party, sold raffle tickets to win the big prizes of the night including the infamous “rabbit” vibrator. Even if you didn’t buy raffle tickets, I think it is safe to say that everyone came out a winner that night!
Questions were answered and more than half of the guests won prizes; some received more than one. After a long, hard, romp in the John Ballantyne basement, there were happier and more informed men and women in the Pacific community!
If you weren’t able to attend this year, make sure to put yourself in one of the sessions next year. Hey, for $5 many guests got an armload of sex toys and a great deal of information about the oh-sonaughty deed. Take my word for it, or better yet, experience it yourself. Views: 274
